Pickens, SC : 24-year-old John Chastain died after motorcycle crash in Pickens County on Wednesday night, April 29, 2015

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a motorcycle rider in Pickens County Wednesday night.

The crash occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Liberty Highway, troopers said.

The operator of a Kawasaki motorcycle was heading south on Liberty Highway, when they attempted to pass another vehicle, and hit a Jeep Cherokee head-on.

The Pickens County Coroner said 24-year-old John Chastain from Six Mile died after being ejected from the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet, but suffered blunt force trauma.

The motorcycle also caught on fire, but was put out, according to firefighters on scene.

Three people in the Jeep, including a juvenile, were not injured, troopers said.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
