LARRYVILLE, PA : 27-year-old Jersey Shore man die on April, Sunday 23rd 2017
Zachary Pittenger, 27, of Jersey Shore, was pronounced dead after a wreck that left him trapped in his pickup truck for more than 30 minutes on Friday night, authorities reported Sunday.
Police and emergency medical personnel responded to Route 287 at Larryville Road just before 8 p.m. for initial reports of an overturned vehicle with entrapment, according to an officer with the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police.
Pittenger was the only person in the Ford F-150 and was traveling north when his vehicle “left the roadway, drove up an embankment, struck a sign and two utility poles,” the officer said.
Pittenger’s truck landed upside down.
Some of the electrical wires were grounded and exposed after the collision, according to the dispatch Friday evening.
A medical helicopter was requested as soon as responders saw that Pittenger had suffered “severe” injuries, police said. The helicopter landed at Salladasburg Elementary School just after 8:15 p.m.
Because of the prolonged period of entrapment, responders were debating whether to bring the helicopter crew to the crash site, according to the dispatch.
Pittenger was freed around 8:45 p.m. and transported to Jersey Shore Hospital, police said, but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Police continue to investigate the incident, and toxicology reports are pending.
