Tacoma, WA : 2 killed in head-on crash on S.R. 135 on Friday, 8th May, 2020
Two people were killed in a head-on collision that occurred Friday morning at about 7:30 near Mauckport.
According to a Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept. report, the crash happened on S.R. 135 near Lopp Circle Road. Officer Brent Lewis said when he arrived he saw two vehicles sitting in the roadway, a 2009 red Volkswagen Jetta in the northbound lane and a grey 2002 Toyota Tacoma in the southbound lane.
Police said the driver of the Tacoma, identified as George Weick, 23, of Corydon, appeared to have been unstrained and was ejected from his vehicle, which was in the southbound lane facing east. Weick’s body was next to the guardrail on the west side of the highway, Lewis said, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Airbags in Weick’s vehicle had deployed.
Norma Wolff, 63, of Goshen, was the driver of the Jetta, which was facing north in the northbound lane. Lewis reported that she was found deceased in the driver’s seat, restrained by her seat belt. Her vehicle’s front and side airbags had deployed.
It was determined that Weick was traveling south and, for an unknown reason, went left of center and struck Wolff’s vehicle. Lewis’ report noted it was raining at the time of the crash.
The bodies were released to Harrison County Coroner Gary Gilley and deputy coroner Jeremy McKim.
Assisting at the scene besides other officers from the sheriff’s department were members of the Heth and Boone Township Volunteer Fire departments.
