Austin, TX : Motorcyclist crashes into patrol car on Texas 6, ejects driver on Monday, March 27th 2017
A motorcyclist was seriously hurt early this morning when he crashed into the back of a College Station patrol car parked with its emergency lights on Texas 6 where an officer was diverting traffic away from a traffic stop.
No one else was injured in the crash that unfolded at about 1 a.m. shutting down the northbound lanes between University and Briarcrest drives for four hours as crews cleaned up the scene.
The officer directing traffic saw the motorcycle coming straight at him, and yelled for the other officers and occupants of the vehicle that was pulled over to watch out as the motorcyclist – whose name has not been released – applied the rear brake and began to skid, striking the left back panel of the patrol unit, according to authorities, adding that the motorcyclist was ejected.
Officers immediately began to render aid to the man until EMS workers arrived and took over. The man was rushed to CHI St. Joseph where he was listed in serious condition with “incapacitating injuries.”
Bryan police and College Station firefighters aided in closing the highway during the investigation into the accident.
It wasn’t clear if the driver of the car who was pulled over at 12:05 a.m. was issued a citation, but the officer said he pulled the vehicle over on suspicion that the driver was drunk, authorities said.
That officer parked behind the suspect’s vehicle to capture video-recording of the driver being questioned, while the second car was parked directly behind the first patrol car to direct traffic from the outside lane to the inside, police said.
