It was a difficult night in Eaton on Tuesday, as separate – but related – incidents landed one man in the hospital and another in jail.
About 7:35 p.m., a pedestrian was struck while crossing Ind. 3. near Indiana Avenue.
Eaton Police Chief Jon Snodgrass said the victim, an Eaton man, was hit by a southbound van, traveling 30 to 40 mph, in an area that isn’t well-lighted.
The victim – who suffered injuries to his head and abdomen – was taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, and was later flown by Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Snodgrass said the man – whose name was not available – was expected to recover.
Blood samples were taken from both the driver and the pedestrian, standard procedure in accidents involving serious injuries.
About 30 minutes later, a car traveling southbound on Ind. 3 crashed into a vehicle owned by the Eaton Fire Department, which was at the intersection with Delaware County Road 1100-N.
