Lake City, FL : Multiple people injured in 4-vehicle crash in Columbia County on Monday afternoon, April 3, 2017
Several people were injured in a multivehicle crash Monday afternoon in Columbia County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of a Dodge Ram slammed into the back of a Volkswagen Beetle that was stopped on U.S. 441, waiting to turn left onto Aviation Drive.
Troopers said the driver of a Volkswagen Passat veered onto the shoulder of 441 in an attempt to avoid the Dodge truck, but struck the Beetle instead. The two Volkswagens then continued northeast and struck a fence.
The FHP said when the truck collided with the Beetle, the Dodge truck then veered left and crashed into a Chevy Silverado truck that was traveling south on 441.
Troopers said the driver of the Beetle, Cathy Nipper, 50, of Lake City, was airlifted to Shands Gainesville with serious injuries. The passenger in Nipper's car was taken to Shands Lake Shore with minor injuries.
The driver of the Passat, a 24-year-old woman from Lake City, along with all of the passengers -- a 1-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman and a 78-year-old, all of Lake City -- were also taken to Shands Lake Shore with minor injuries.
