Wolverine, MI : Indian River man, 22, killed in car crash on South Straits Highway on Saturday, December 30, 2016

A 22-year-old Indian River man was killed in a two-vehicle crash New Year’s Eve when he lost control of the car he was driving in snowy conditions and collided with a pickup truck on South Straits Highway.

Tyler Hoobler was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said, after his 2005 Chevrolet Corsica crossed the centerline around 4:49 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, and traveled into the path of a 2012 Ford F-150 that was heading southbound being driven by 27-year-old Veronica Gough of Mackinac Island. Gough suffered minor injuries in the crash, officials said, and two adult passengers in her car were not injured.

In addition to the Wolverine Fire Department and Cheboygan Life Support System, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Team and the Michigan State Police assisted in the initial crash investigation.

Authorities said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but that it remains under investigation.
