Ocala, FL : One dead in fiery crash on April, Monday 17th 2017
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash on U.S. 301 at County Road 316 near Citra.
Lt. Patrick Riordan with the Florida Highway Patrol said in an email message that there was “a confirmed fatality involved in this crash.”
A trooper at the scene said a passenger car and a semi were traveling south on U.S. 301, when, for an unknown reason, the car crossed over into the northbound lanes, where it was hit by a different semi.
Marion County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the crash at 1:12 p.m. Monday, according to its website. MCFR reports the vehicles were fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived.
At the scene, the cab of the semi was completely burned up. It appeared, as the car was being towed by a wrecker, that it had been damaged by fire but not as extensively. The passenger side of the vehicle was heavily damaged by the impact, however.
