Tumwater , WA : Beaverton woman dies in crash on I-5, several hurt in 2nd crash on Saturday early Morning ,july 4th 2015

A Beaverton woman was killed early Saturday morning in a two-car crash on I-5 in Tumwater, and several others were injured in a second crash while crews were still working the scene.

According to officials, Patrick Martin Jr. was driving a Chrysler 300 north on I-5 when around 6 a.m. he changed lanes and crashed with a Volkswagen Jetta.

The Jetta spun out and rolled in a ditch, landing on its top. Emergency responders later pronounced the Jetta's driver, a 43-year-old Beaverton woman, deceased.

The accident report noted that drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Martin was booked into the Thurston County Jail in Olympia on vehicular homicide. He was not hurt in the crash, however his passenger sustained some minor injuries.

As troopers were wrapping up their investigation about three hours later, as second, four-car crash happened nearby.

Officials said there were multiple injuries, including a child that had to be airlifted to a Seattle hospital. No word from officials on their current condition.

Crews closed the northbound lanes to clear the second crash; they are expected to remain closed through midday Saturday.
