FALMOUTH, ME : 1 dead, 2 badly hurt in crash on I-295 in Falmouth on Friday, 7th June 2019

A young woman was killed and two others in the car were seriously injured after a crash happened Friday afternoon on I-295.

Witnesses told police that the driver, 29-year-old Brannon McRae, of Augusta, was speeding and driving erratically, travelling northbound on the interstate, before his car left the road and slammed into the rock ledges along the highway. The impact of the crash ripped the engine from the car and it landed in the road. No other cars were involved.One of his passengers, a 26-year old woman from out of state, was killed. Her name has not been released. McRae and another unnamed passenger were taken to Maine Medical Center.

I-295 was closed for several hours between miles 10 and 15 in Yarmouth. Traffic backed up for several miles during the evening commute.

The accident remains under investigation.
