Hopewell Township, NJ : Two people killed and three others, including a Berks County man, injured in a two-car collision on Route 31 in Hopewell on Saturday, March 7, 2015
Two people were killed and three others injured when two cars collided on Route 31 south of Route 518 in Hopewell Township shortly after midnight Saturday, police said.
A Chevy Cobalt driven by Joel MacArthur, 21, of Oley, Pa., was traveling south on Route 31 and a Ford Focus driven by 28-year-old Devon Tomb, of Flanders, was heading north when they collided in the northbound lane, police said. The collision caused Tomb's car to veer off the road and MacArthur's to come to a stop in the middle of the road, police said.
MacArthur was extricated and taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. His front-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, and his rear-seat passenger was flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The passengers' identities were not released pending notification of next of kin.
Tomb was flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center and his front-seat passenger, Christine Thompson, 27, of Flanders, was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, police said.
Thompson was listed in fair condition Saturday morning, according to a spokesperson from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by Hopewell Township police and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
