Police say they've charged a 53-year-old man with drunken driving after he crashed is car off a Syracuse-area interstate and then was struck by a vehicle while walking along the highway.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says deputies and emergency crews responded around 12:40 a.m. Thursday to a report of a pedestrian hit by a car on Interstate 690 in the town of Lysander, 10 miles northwest of Syracuse.

Deputies say Mark Consroe of the town of Clay was hit by a car while walking south in the northbound lanes. He's listed in stable condition at Upstate University Hospital.

Police say they found his vehicle several yards off the highway in a nearby field. Consroe was charged with driving while intoxicated. It couldn't immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
