Gary, IN : Car crashes into Hammond shop on Saturday, 19th May 2018
A woman escaped with minor injuries early Saturday when her car careened into a resale shop.
The woman, whose age Smith said was unclear, ran into the front of the unidentified resale shop, damaging it badly, at around 5:07 a.m. in the 5900 block of Calumet Avenue, Hammond Police Chief Jeff Smith said.
As bricks were falling through the sunroof of her car, firefighters were able to extricate her through the passenger-side window, Smith said.
The police chief said emergency personnel weren't sure what type of medical emergency might have caused the woman to lose control of the car, but it was unlikley drugs or alcohol were involved.
The woman was taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake for treatment, but the only obvious injury was a swollen ankle, Smith said.
