Woman dies from injuries in motorcycle crash at Dover on Sunday,7th August,2016
A Dover woman who was the passenger on a motorcycle that crashed Sunday near Smyrna has died as a result of her injuries.Kimberly Smith, 51, of Dover, died Monday shortly before 3:30 p.m., Delaware State Police said.
The crash happened Sunday at about 8 p.m., on Del. Route 1 just north of Smyrna.
James E. Smith, 53, of Dover, was driving a 2007 Honda VTX1300R motorcycle south in the right lane. Due to an apparent mechanical malfunction, he lost control of the motorcycle and both he and the passenger, his sister, Kimberly Smith, were thrown to the ground.
James Smith was taken by emergency medical services personnel to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.Kimberly Smith was airlifted by the State Police helicopter to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital. After advanced lifesaving efforts by paramedics, she was admitted in critical condition but then died on Monday afternoon.
Police are continuing their investigation into this incident.
