Florida Highway Patrol is requesting the public’s assistance for information on a U.S. Highway 90 crash that claimed the life of a Pensacola man Wednesday night.
According to a FHP press release, 30-year-old Darius L. Hunter was traveling east at 10:41 p.m. on U.S. 90 at a high rate of speed in a Nissan sedan when it approached another vehicle from the rear traveling in the inside lane. When Hunter passed the slower vehicle, the Nissan left the roadway west of Woodbine Road and traveled down the south shoulder.
After striking several trees, the Nissan caught fire as it came to a final position of rest. Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene.
FHP said the investigation is ongoing and the agency is currently seeking a dark colored sedan that may have been racing Hunter when the crash occurred. It is believed no contact was made between the two vehicles prior to the crash.
