Clarksburg, CA : 2 young children killed when mom's car hits tree in Yolo County Friday morning on July 11, 2014
Two children from Clarksburg are dead after a car crashed into a tree and split in two Friday morning.
According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, a 2004 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Jefferson Boulevard south of Central Avenue near Clarksburg around 9:55 a.m. when the driver turned the car to the left.
"This unsafe turning movement caused the Honda to rotate as it traveled across the southbound traffic lane and onto the dirt shoulder where the right side struck a tree," according to CHP. "The force of the impact caused the Honda to be severed in two and the rear occupant, a 2-year-old male, and the right front passenger, a 5-year-old male, to be ejected from the vehicle."
The CHP reported that the female driver, 42 of Clarkburg, remained in the car as it came to a rest near a tree. Both children were pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to Kaiser-South via air ambulance with moderate injuries. The children's identities had not been released as of Friday evening.
The CHP is investigating if child safety seats were being used at the time of the crash.
