Gainesville, FL : Three people injured in a crash on State Road 200 on Thursday afternoon August 14th 2014
Two of three people injured in a crash on State Road 200 Thursday afternoon have been treated and released from the hospital.
A 3-year-old boy, however, remains at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville in stable condition, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.
Suzanne Santangelo, a spokesperson at Ocala Regional Medical Center, said Friday that Joseph Lee Olson, 32 and his 5-year-old son, Owen Olson, were both treated and released.
His other son, Nicholas, was first taken to ORMC but later flown to Shands with critical injuries.
Olson and the driver of the second vehicle, a Dodge Dakota, gave troopers conflicting stories of how the accident occurred.
John Smigielski, 81, told an FHP official that he was heading west on the busy road and Olson's vehicle was going the same direction.
Smigielski said Olson suddenly changed lanes and ended up in front of him. He said he was unable to get out of the way or stop, so he veered to the right and his vehicle then slammed into the back of Olson's car.
Olson, who was driving a Nissan Altima, told troopers that he was in the outside lane stopped a red light when Smigielski's truck rear-ended him.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Southwest 65th Avenue Road and SR 200.
Smigielski voluntarily gave blood to troopers and the investigation is on-going, officials said.
