Greenville,SC : 1 shot in head, 5 charged after shooting, hit-and-run in Greenville on February, Wednesday 7th 2018
Greenville, South Carolina
A man was taken to a nearby hospital after he was shot in the head while driving in downtown Greenville Wednesday afternoon.
Greenville Police Department officials said the shooting occurred on Rutherford Road near Main Street in downtown Greenville.
According to Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller, the man was shot in the head from another car and a passenger in the victim’s vehicle was able to guide their vehicle into a nearby parking lot where it crashed.
Police say that the victim is still in the hospital as of 10:30pm Wednesday and his condition is not known at this time.
“We’re not exactly sure what took place, but there was some altercation between the occupants of the vehicles. Some shots rang out and struck the driver of a vehicle, who also had a passenger who was not struck by a bullet,” Miller said.
“We have all three vehicles plus the victim’s vehicle in our custody, and we have five individuals in our custody,” Miller said.
Miller said two people were detained at the vehicles, two others were captured after a brief chase and one person was taken into custody after a hit-and-run.
The fifth suspect was reportedly involved in the hit-and-run crash and left the scene of that crash. Police are trying to figure out if it’s related to this shooting.
Officers chased that person in the area of Wade Hampton Boulevard and Chick Springs Road.
The suspect was reportedly bitten by dogs during the chase, which allowed police to detain the suspect.
Investigators say they believe the shooting was not a random act and it appears everyone involved knew each other.
