FREMONT, CA : An 18-year-old woman died in a car crash on May, Sunday, 14th 2017
An 18-year-old woman died early Sunday when two cars crashed head-on at an intersection, police said.The crash on northbound Fremont Boulevard and Darwin Drive happened around 2:30 a.m. and also sent three others to the hospital, one of them with major injuries, police said. That person, the mother of the 18-year-old Fremont woman, is expected to survive, police said.
According to reports from KGO-TV, the woman was Fremont resident and James Logan High School student Shane Marcelino, who died only blocks from her home after attending the school’s prom Saturday.
Police originally said the crash happened around 3:30 a.m.. Officers closed a stretch of northbound Fremont Boulevard between Ferry Lane and Paseo Padre Parkway until around 1:30 p.m..
According to police, a black Toyota Yaris was making a left-hand turn from southbound Fremont Boulevard onto eastbound Darwin Drive when it collided with a blue Chevy Malibu going north on Fremont Boulevard, killing the 18-year-old in the front passenger seat. Police did not identify her.
The woman’s 39-year-old mother went to a hospital trauma center. A 23-year-old man driving the Chevy suffered minor injuries, as did a 25-year-old man sitting in the passenger seat, police said. Both are Union City residents.
Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were involved. No arrests have been made.
