PROVIDENCE, RI : Woman, Providence police officer injured in rollover crash on Friday,13th April 2018
A woman was at Rhode Island Hospital early Friday evening after a crash that involved her vehicle and a Providence police cruiser, authorities said.
The two vehicles made contact at the intersection of Portland and Friendship streets at about 4 p.m., said Providence police Deputy Chief Thomas Verdi.
The officer was treated and released from the hospital after the patrol vehicle he was driving, an SUV, overturned and was extensively damaged, Verdi said.
Just prior to the crash, the officer had turned around in an effort to stop another driver, Verdi said. That other driver, 33-year-old George Charland, was stopped by other police officers and charged with driving under the influence, Verdi said.
Verdi said he had no further information to provide. An investigation continues.
