SANFORD, NC : A Bear Creek woman died and eight others were injured in a two-car accident on Saturday, September 9, 2017

A Bear Creek woman died and eight others were injured in a two-car accident 5.5 miles west of Sanford Saturday afternoon.

Juana Hernandez, 69, was killed when the Nissan Sentra in which she was a passenger ran a stop sign and collided with a Honda Accord. The Honda was eastbound on N.C. 42; the Nissan was traveling north on Plank Road. Both vehicles ran off the road and came to rest down an embankment.

The four other occupants of the car in which Hernandez was riding and all four passengers in the Honda were transported to medical facilities. Hernandez was not wearing a seat belt. No other information was available at presstime.
