Flagstaff mother killed in rollover crash in Arizona
A Flagstaff mother was killed just after 11 a.m. Tuesday when she lost control and rolled her car on Interstate 40 eastbound just before the County Club exit.
She was not wearing her seatbelt and was thrown from the car, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Jennifer Pareng, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her two children, ages 3 and 4, were wearing their seatbelts, but they were thrown from the rear window of the car. Neither child was significantly injured.One child was treated and released and the other was recovering at the Flagstaff Medical Center Tuesday.
The woman's husband was wearing his seatbelt and suffered minor injuries in the crash.According to investigators, the family was returning from Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff at the time. Alcohol is suspected as a possible factor in the crash, officials said.Witnesses told officers that the vehicle was swerving prior to losing control and rolling multiple times in the median.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Traffic on the interstate was backed up for more than two hours while emergency crews worked the scene.
