A man was transported to University Hospital in Louisville by Air Methods late Thursday morning after a two-vehicle crash on Nelsonville Road.Just after 11:30 a.m., a woman happened upon the wreck in a curve in the road, just south of the Bluegrass Parkway, moments after it occurred and called 911.
A Chevrolet Impala, driven by the man, was coming around the curve when the vehicle struck the passenger side door of a Honda Accord.
The driver of the Accord, a woman, was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown by Nelson County EMS.
According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, the Impala slipped on some kind of liquid in the roadway, possibly oil or fuel, as it rounded the curve, causing it to strike the other vehicle.
NCSO, Nelson County EMS, Hardin County sheriff’s deputies, Hardin County EMS and Kentucky State Police all responded to the crash, as did several fire departments from Nelson and Hardin counties.
Katelyn Herron of Campbellsville said the injured man, who was an acquaintance, was driving her car and she was looking down at her phone and didn’t see what happened until the cars collided.
“I knew it was too late,” she said.
Herron said her car had bald tires, and she had “hydroplaned” earlier that day when she was driving.
A Kentucky State Police trooper was the officer making the report, but was unavailable for an interview.
