We're learning new information about a deadly police chase that happened early Friday morning.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department tells us the driver who died was going nearly three times the speed limit on Westnedge in Portage.

State police have identified the driver as 50-year-old Juanita Lee of Kalamazoo.

The undersheriff told us she hit speeds nearing 80 miles per hour, eventually hitting the railroad tracks at the intersection of Westnedge and Shaver and flipping multiple times.

You can still see the damage to the tracks.

The sheriff's department tells us the whole thing started around 3:00 a.m. A deputy pulled a woman over for speeding for going about 55 in a 35 on Westnedge.

Were told she pulled into a parking lot, got out of her car and headed toward the deputy.

He ordered her back to her car and that's when she took off.

She hit speeds upwards of 80 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

We were on scene shortly after she hit the tracks and rolled her car.

In our video you can see the car was just destroyed.

The undersheriff says she was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from her car and later died.

They do believe she had been drinking.

Police say she had a warrant out for her arrest after violating probation following drug charges.

The crash is under investigation by Michigan State Police.

The railroad there is shut down until the damage can be fixed.
