Alexandria, LA : Chester Cormier Sr., 75, killed in single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 190 in Allen Parish on Monday, September 26, 2016

An Allen Parish man was killed Monday when his pickup truck went off the road and struck a tree, according to State Police Troop D.

The victim was identified as Chester Cormier Sr., 75, of Reeves.

The one-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. Highway 190 in Allen Parish. Troopers from Troop D responded at 4:33 p.m. Monday.

Cormier was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup truck in the area of LeBlanc, between Reeves and Kinder, when for unknown reasons the vehicle went off the road and hit a tree, police reported.

Cormier, who was alone in the truck, was critically injured despite wearing a seat belt, police said, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

A routine toxicology sample will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop D has investigated 27 fatal crashes resulting in 31 deaths this year. This is the third fatal crash in Allen Parish this year.
