SCHENECTADY, NY : Funeral services being held for NY trooper killed in crash on Tuesday, 4th December 2018

A New York state trooper killed in an on-duty crash outside the upstate station where he worked was “the kind of trooper you want out patrolling your community,” the head of the agency said Monday during the fallen officer’s funeral services.

Hundreds of fellow New York troopers were among the more than 1,000 law enforcement officers who joined relatives and friends of Jeremy VanNostrand for his funeral at a Catholic church in Schenectady, along with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other New York dignitaries.

VanNostrand, 36, was killed when his vehicle was rear-ended by a box truck last week as he waited to make a turn into a trooper station in Montgomery County. His vehicle was then pushed into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. VanNostrand was declared dead at an Albany hospital later that morning.

His death is considered an on-duty death, state police officials said.
