A Columbus man was killed early Saturday when a semitrailer carrying liquid nitrogen and a car collided, closing a Near East Side intersection for several hours.

Shawn Good, 30, died at the scene of the 1:39 a.m. crash at the intersection of E. 5th and Leonard avenues, Columbus police said.

Good was driving a 2010 Mazda north on Leonard Avenue when he failed to stop at a red light and hit the tractor-trailer, according to police. The Mazda slid under the truck and punctured the tank. Liquid nitrogen leaked out.

The truck driver, Craig Spenny, 44, was not seriously injured.

The roadway reopened late Saturday morning after a hazardous-materials crew had cleared the area.
