Wellington, OH : Two men killed in traffic wreck in Lorain County’s Penfield Township early Sunday morning, April 3, 2016

Troopers with the state Highway Patrol’s Elyria post are investigating a traffic crash that killed two men early this morning in Lorain County’s Penfield Township.

A 2008 Ford F-350 pick-up truck driven by Benjamin Metzger, 25 of Litchfield, was eastbound on Ohio 18, east of Indian Hollow Road, at 12:31 a.m. when the vehicle went off the south side of the road, struck an embankment, began to overturn and struck a tree, troopers said.

Metzler and his lone passenger, Jeremy Leiter, 24, also of Litchfield, were both found dead when emergency services arrived.

Unsafe speed was a contributing factor in the crash, troopers said. It appeared that Metzger was not wearing a seat-belt; however, troopers were not able to determine at the scene whether Leiter had been wearing his seatbelt. Alcohol usage is unknown, troopers said, and the crash remains under investigation at this time.
