Tallahassee,FL : Trucker killed when semi crashes into SunRail train on November, Thursday 30th 2017
A semi crashed into a SunRail train Thursday, resulting in the death of the driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol
The wreck occurred shortly before noon in the area of Altamonte Springs and it involved a northbound train. There were 36 passengers and two crew on board and no injuries were reported on the train, said Steve Olson, a spokesman for FDOT.
The driver of the semi, Stephen Chambers, 40, of Hazelhurst, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a crash report.
Troopers said the crash occurred at the corner of Plumosa Road and South Ronald Reagan Boulevard.
SunRail trains were still running between the Longwood and DeBary stations after the crash, but the trains to the south were halted for several hours, according to FDOT.
The semi was hauling fencing materials — mainly wood stakes and mesh — and was headed west on Plumosa. The driver was backing up the semi into a business loading area near the train tracks, at which time the front of the train struck the ride side of the semi, troopers said.
