A graduate of Colfax-Mingo High School has died following a single-vehicle accident Tuesday.
Emily Anderson, of Colfax, was injured in an accident on Tuesday, and the Jasper County Sheriff's Office released on Thursday that Anderson died from her injuries at a Des Moines-area hospital.
Officers were called to the single-car accident around 5:44 p.m. in the 2200 block of South 24th Avenue West outside of Newton. Officers found Anderson, who was transported to a Des Moines-area hospital by Mercy Helicopter.
The accident remains under investigation. The sheriff's office did not indicate in the initial report if anyone else was in the car with Anderson at the time of the crash or what caused the driver to lose control. The Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office will also assist in the investigation.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Newton Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and Newton Fire and EMS responded to the accident. Barney’s Towing was called to remove the vehicle.
