Lebanon, OH : Driver hurt in I-71 crash dies of his injuries in Warren County on Tuesday night, November 4, 2014
A man died Wednesday night a day after being injured in a crash that shut down a stretch of I-71 in Warren County for more than three hours.
Ismael Cabrera Lopez, 30, succumbed to his injuries at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to the Hamilton County Coroner.
Troopers said Lopez was heading north on I-71 just before 10 p.m. Tuesday when he stopped abruptly in the right lane before turning left, witnesses told police.
A northbound semi-trailer that was driven by 66-year-old Edward Arnold, of Chambersburg, Penn, hit the Lopez's car near the Socialville-Foster Road overpass in Lebanon.
The car went off the left side of the interstate and hit a concrete median. The tractor-trailer came to a stop on the right side of the road.
Lopez was taken to Bethesda North Hospital by ambulance before being transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical center with life-threatening injuries.
Arnold and his wife, 62-year-old Esther Arnold, were not injured.
Troopers said alcohol appears to be involved in the crash. All the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
The northbound lanes of I-71 were closed for about 55 minutes. The highway was able to completely reopen by about 1:15 a.m.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
