Durham, CT : Deborah Conradi, 53, facing charges including DUI and assault after hit-and-run on Route 17 in Durham on Saturday Night, September 27, 2014
A woman was arrested on drunk driving charges Saturday, after hitting another woman walking near the Durham fair and fleeing the scene.
State police say around 8:30 p.m., they responded to the intersection of Route 17 and Route 79 in Durham where 24-year-old Julia Rorke was struck by a car. Her mother tells News 8 that she was walking along the roadway on Route 17, leaving the Durham fair when she was hit. The impact was so strong, family says it was hard enough to literally knock her out of her boots.
The driver of the car, Deborah Conradi, of West Haven, left the scene and continued driving 1.5 miles south when other drivers then forced her to stop her car. It’s a situation pedestrians in the area were talking about Sunday.
“If something like this is going down they should have more police officers and stops around, during something like that, so something like that doesn’t happen,” said Nina Piscitello, Branford.
Worke was taken by ambulance to Middlesex Hospital where she was then flown by LifeStar to Hartford for treatment of her injuries. Her mother tells News 8 that right now she is home but doctors are still working to determine if she has a “post traumatic head injury.”
Conradi was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, assault, evading responsibility, and failure to maintain lane. She was held on $25,000 bond and will appear in court on Monday.
