Asheboro, NC : Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Thursday, October 5, 2017

Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle accident that blocked both eastbound lanes of travel at the intersection of U.S. 64 (Jordan Road) and N.C. 22 in Ramseur shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday. According to Chief Larry Lewallen of the Ramseur Police Department, a 2002 Lexus SUV driven by Lana Mildred Thomas, 54, of 115 Tripp Cottages Drive, Siler City, was westbound on U.S. 64. When she approached the traffic signal at the N.C. 22 intersection, the light was red for U.S. 64 traffic. When Thomas realized the light was red, she veered left into the turn lane to avoid hitting other vehicles stopped for the light, narrowly avoided striking two vehicles making left turns from N.C. 22 onto U.S. 64, but collided head-on with a 2008 Hyundai SUV driven by Michael Anthony Reynolds, 41, of 2022 Brooklyn Ave., Ramseur. Lewallen estimated the speed of Thomas’s vehicle at about 50 mph; the Reynolds vehicle was traveling about 15 mph. Both vehicles came to rest facing south in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 64. Reynolds was taken to Randolph Health in Asheboro, where he was treated and released. Thomas was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, where she was listed in fair condition on Thursday. There were no passengers. Charges are pending. (Chip Womick / The Courier-Tribune)
