Springfield, IL : 16-year-old dies in crash on Sunday, 18th September 2016
A 16-year-old male from Clifton was killed Sunday evening when he drove off the road and crashed into several trees.
The Iroquois County coroner pronounced the teen, whose name has not been released, dead at the scene, according to Illinois State Police.
According to Central School District Superintendent Tonya Evans, the teen was "very involved" in FFA and 4-H. She said the family showed livestock nationally.
"He was very intelligent and had a very bright future," Evans said.
Grief counselors were scheduled to be at the high school today.
The wreck occurred about 5:51 p.m. along U.S. Route 45 near 1159E in Iroquois County. There is no word yet on why the crash occurred. Police say the teen was headed westbound when he "ran off the roadway to the left, striking a culvert, rolled several times and struck several large trees."
No one else was in the car.
