Marathon, FL : Three people were injured in a three-vehicle crash at U.S. 1 On Friday, July 22nd, 2016
A three-vehicle crash in Marathon Friday afternoon sent two people to a Miami hospital with serious injuries and another person to the local hospital.
Jose Samuel Pereira Lara, 29, of Marathon, was driving his Ford F-250 pickup truck northbound on U.S. 1 around 84th Street and crossed the raised center median. The pickup collided head-on with a southbound Kia Sedona
driven by Leonardo Pena Rojas, 47, also of Marathon, at 3:05 p.m.
The impact pushed the Kia to the outside lane into the path of a southbound Toyota Highlander, which collided with the back of the Kia.
Rojas and Lara were airlifted to Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Miami to be treated for serious injuries. The Toyota driver, Teri Beth Swedenborg, 54, and passenger Alicia White, 16, both of Austin, Texas, were taken to
Fishermen’s Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.
Southbound traffic was completely blocked on U.S. 1 until after 5 p.m., when police cleared one lane, said FHP Lt. Kathleen McKinney.
