Atlanta,GA : Family at home when SUV crashes into their DeKalb house on January, Wednesday 17th 2018
An SUV with a New York license plate smashed into a DeKalb County family’s house on Wednesday, the family told Channel 2 Action News.
After hearing a loud crash, the Madgett family thought a tree fell on their Stone Mountain home. But upon inspection, they saw a giant hole in the garage where a car crashed its way in.
The whole family including the children were home for the snow day and inside the kitchen, where the SUV could have landed.
“So had it not been for the cars, the car would’ve come straight through our kitchen,” Shawn Madgett told the news station.
One of the children described the sound like a car accident in front of the house.
“I was really scared,” Korie Madgett said.
After hitting a patch of ice, the driver of the SUV hit a Georgia Power transformer, parked cars, a water main and a light pole before sliding down the hill on Gateway Boulevard, police said.
The SUV finally stopped when it crashed into the house.
“Our cars are damaged and our walls were damaged but at least everybody is safe,” Shawn Madgett said.
The SUV driver, who wasn’t named, suffered only a swollen lip in the crash and refused medical treatment, Channel 2 reported.
