Wimauma, FL : One person died, two Lakeland residents injured after being involved in a crash on State Road 674 in Hillsborough County on Friday, April 1, 2016

Two Lakeland residents were in critical condition after being involved in a crash on State Road 674 in Hillsborough County that left one person dead, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Their names were not released Friday night but one of the victims is a 15-year-old boy, reports said.

The crash occurred about 4 p.m. when a 2001 Ford Windstar was heading west on SR 674 east of Chert Rock Trail and a 2003 Honda CRV was heading east on SR 674, said Sgt. Steve Gaskins of FHP.

The driver of the Ford lost control for unknown reasons and traveled into the eastbound lane. The Ford then went off the roadway and onto the south shoulder while rotating clockwise in a southwesterly direction, Gaskins said.

The driver of the Honda tried to avoid the Ford and ran off the roadway onto the south shoulder, which resulted in the left front of the Ford colliding with the left front of the Honda.

The impact caused the Ford to overturn and the woman driving the Ford was killed. Her passenger got out and ran away after the crash, Gaskins said.

The two occupants of the Honda, the 15-year-old and a 49-year-old woman, both from Lakeland, were taken to Tampa General Hospital where they are in critical condition.
