Mesa, AZ : 2 dead in collision near Mesa when driver runs red light on Wednesday, 31st July 2019

Two people died in a vehicle collision Wednesday night near Mesa, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.

According to witnesses, a pickup truck was traveling south on Recker Road when the driver ran a red light at University Drive and t-boned another car that was traveling east, said Sgt. Bryant Vanegas, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The 32-year-old driver and 23-year-old passenger of the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The 57-year-old female driver of the pick-up truck was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Possible impairment and speeding issues are being investigated by MCSO, Vanegas said.

This is an ongoing investigation.
