A 24-year-old woman is dead following an accident early this morning.
Denton Police crash investigators are working to determine the events that led to the crash.
According to a media release, the Denton Police Department received a call at 1:10 a.m. in reference to an unconscious person. Officers responded to FM2449 just west of Underwood Road and discovered the accident.
The driver of a 2004 Ford Focus was traveling westbound on FM2449. As it was passing Underwood Road, the driver lost control and the vehicle left the roadway on the south side of 2449, the release said. The car slid through the ditch and eventually struck a tree, coming to a stop there.
The roadway was shut down while first responders worked the accident.
FM2449 was reopened at 5:04 a.m.
Early evidence has led investigators to believe that unsafe speed and wet pavement may have contributed to the cause of the accident. Alcohol may possibly have been a factor, as well, according to the news release.
The identity of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of the family.
