Phoenix, AZ : Pregnant woman, unborn baby OK after ejection from vehicle in crash near Tolleson on Monday afternoon, February 27, 2017

A pregnant woman and her unborn baby were said to be in stable condition Monday afternoon hours after being thrown from a vehicle in a crash southwest of Phoenix, officials said.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez, a Sheriff's Office spokesman, said while it initially appeared that the woman's injuries were life threatening, both she and the unborn baby, which is at a gestational age of five months, are expected to survive.

The crash occurred at about 8 a.m. near 71st Avenue and Broadway Road near Tolleson.

It appeared an SUV had rolled, based on the length of the debris field. Papers, sports equipment and other items were strewn across the roadway, and workers shoveled the items into the SUV before it was towed from the scene.
