Clermont, FL : Three utility workers killed after being hit by a vehicle on US-27 in Lake County on Thursday, April 2, 2015

Three utility workers were killed when a car crashed into their work site Thursday in Lake County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, 92-year-old Ira Caldwell Jr. pulled directly into the path of another vehicle that was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 27.

The crash sent the southbound vehicle careening off the road, striking the three Service Electric Company workers near Cagan Crossings Boulevard, FHP said.

"Florida law requires you to make a right turn to the right-most lane, and we believe he went into the center lane," FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said. "The impact was just too severe. It knocked them down."

The three men were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as Jeremy Bradshaw, 35, Dewey Summerlin, 34, and Jeffrey Estes, 40. All three men were from Georgia, troopers said.

"Service Electric Company is saddened by the tragic accident that occurred in Davenport, Florida today, April 2, 2015. Our thoughts and prayers first and foremost go out to our employees and their families. The incident is under investigation at this time," the company said in a statement.

According to troopers, Caldwell was not hurt, and the second driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers are still investigating the crash, and charges are pending. Caldwell hasn't had a ticket or a crash since he got his license in 1993, according to FHP. Investigators said Caldwell could now be re-evaluated to see if he should be allowed to have a driver's license at all.

"As you get older some of those skills that you had as a younger driver diminish," Montes said. "It's hard to judge how fast a car is approaching you."
