Kingston, WA : One man died and two other people injured after a head-on traffic crash on State Route 104 west of Kingston on Wednesday night, March 11, 2015
One person was killed and two were injured Wednesday evening in a head-on crash near Kingston, the Washington State Patrol reports.
State troopers responded to the scene, on Highway 104 near Parcell Road, just before 8 p.m. after receiving a report of a serious collision.
They found the driver of one vehicle, a 1994 Toyota Camry, dead at the scene.
A 53-year-old man and his 14-year-old daughter were found injured in the second vehicle, a 1994 Jeep Cherokee. The daughter was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a broken femur, and the father was taken to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver of the Camry, a 28-year-old Sequim man, was heading west on Highway 104 when he suddenly veered into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into the Jeep Cherokee.
Both vehicles spun around from the force of the impact. The Camry came to rest in the center of the intersection, and the Jeep came to rest on the shoulder of the highway.
State troopers said the crash victims' injuries might have been less severe and the driver of the Camry might have survived if they had been wearing seat belts.
"One of the tragic things about this accident is that there were no seat belts worn by any of the occupants in the vehicles," said State Patrol Sgt. Pete Stock at the scene.
It was unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The name of the deceased driver was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
