Greenville, SC : Anderson deputy charged in wreck on Wednesday, 19th October 2016
Greenville, South Carolina
An Anderson County Sheriff's Office deputy has been charged with driving too fast for conditions in a wreck that caused a woman to be airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Hovis said Steven Brent McKinney, 25, crossed the center line of Masters Boulevard at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and collided with another car.
The wreck happened about 1.5 miles south of Anderson, Hovis said.
The driver of the other car, 23-year-old Janel Deniqwa Harkness, was injured and emergency responders had to use machines to free her from her 2003 Honda, Hovis said.
Both Harkness and McKinney were wearing seat belts, Hovis said.
McKinney was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. He also was injured in the wreck and taken to AnMed Health Medical Center by ambulance.
Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lt. Sheila Cole said in an email Thursday that McKinney was on duty at the time of the wreck and there will be an internal Sheriff's Office review of the collision.
