Fort Lauderdale, FL : Motorcyclist dies in crash with police car and other vehicle on Interstate 595 early Saturday, July 5, 2014
A 44-year-old motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a Fort Lauderdale police car and then being struck by another vehicle on Interstate 595 early Saturday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Raymond Jean-Baptiste, of Plantation, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 2:10 a.m. on westbound I-595 just west of Davie Road.
Jean-Baptiste was traveling west behind the police car and struck the right rear of the marked unit, causing him to be ejected, the Florida Highway Patrol report said.
While on the roadway, Jean-Baptiste was then struck by a 1999 Honda Accord. He was not wearing a helmet, the report said.
The police sergeant, Matthew Bucella, 45, and the three occupants of the Honda Accord were not injured, it said.
Investigators closed the westbound lanes of I-595 until 6:30 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
