WHITE OAK, AL : Lauderdale woman dies in wreck on Saturday, February 25th 2017
A Lauderdale County woman was killed Saturday in a wreck in eastern Colbert County.
Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley identified her as 60-year-old Lucy Garrard, of Florence.
Utley said Garrard, who turned 60 Saturday, lived in the Greenhill community, northeast of Florence.
The accident was reported to Colbert County 911 at 1:58 p.m.
Troopers said the wreck occurred on J McGee Road, which is south off of Alabama 157 in the White Oak community.
Emergency personnel at the scene said Garrard was driving a Ford Explorer Sports Trac that ran off the roadway and crashed.
Reports indicate the vehicle, which was traveling west on J McGee Road, ran off the north side of the road and flipped.
Authorities said when the vehicle left the roadway and flipped, Garrard was thrown from the car.
Emergency officials at the scene said Garrard was found pinned underneath the vehicle in a ditch off the roadway.
Firefighters and rescue personnel from White Oak and Spring Valley volunteer fire departments were called to the scene along with Air Evac air ambulance.
Utley pronounced Garrard dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Quad-Cities Troopers Post.
Saturday's traffic fatality is the third in the area, and in Colbert County, in a week.
Last Sunday afternoon, two people were killed when the motorcycle they were driving ran off the roadway and crashed on LaGranage Road near Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
Saturday's fatality is the sixth in the northwest Alabama region and southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence this year.
All six of the fatalities occurred this month.
