SEATTLE ,WA : Motorcyclist killed in grisly crash on July, Tuesday 4th 2017
A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning in a grisly crash that ejected him off a freeway ramp and into HOV lane traffic at downtown Seattle's major interchange linking Interstate 5 and Interstate 90.
State troopers responded to the busy interchange at about 7:25 a.m. after receiving reports that a motorcycle had crashed. The motorcyclist's body was found lying in the freeway below an exit ramp.
A preliminary investigation found that the cyclist was heading south on I-5 and took the exit to eastbound I-90 at high speed, struck the elevated barrier and then lost control. He was ejected from the motorcycle and thrown over the barrier.
He then tumbled down into the northbound lanes of I-5 below and landed on a 2008 Dodge Caliber that was traveling at freeway speed. The impact shattered the car's windshield and blew out some windows. The motorcyclist bounced off the car and was thrown into the HOV lane, where it's believed he was run over by one or two more vehicles.
Excessive speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, the State Patrol reported.
The motorcyclist was later identified as Richard A. McKelvey, 29, of Monroe.
No one was injured in the Dodge Caliber.
The crash blocked two northbound lanes of I-5 at the scene for hours, snarling traffic. All lanes reopened by about 11 a.m.
