Eau Claire,WI : Two dead in Clark County head-on crash on December, Friday 15th 2017

Two people died late Friday as a result of a two-vehicle crash reported shortly after 11 p.m. on U.S. 10 in the Clark County town of Pine Valley.

Initial investigation indicates that a Chevrolet pickup driven by a 26-year-old male was traveling west on U.S. 10 when it crossed the centerline by Sidney Avenue and struck an eastbound Chevrolet Impala head-on, according to Clark County Sheriff Gregory Herrick.

The two female occupants in the car, a 29-year-old driver and 35-year-old passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. The driver of the truck was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville and then to Marshfield Medical Center for incapacitating injuries. It’s believed the operator of the truck was intoxicated, Herrick indicated in a statement.

Both female occupants were wearing seat belts and are from the Neillsville area. The truck operator, from the Humbird area, was by himself in the truck and also was believed to have been wearing a seat belt.

Speed, road conditions and driver impairment appear to be factors in the accident, Herrick said.

The victims weren’t immediately identified, pending notification of family members.

The crash, which remains under investigation by the sheriff’s and coroner’s offices, resulted in the eighth and ninth traffic fatalities in Clark County for 2017.
