Lynchburg, VA : School bus crash that shut down Link Road for nearly an hour on Thursday afternoon October 16th 2014

Lynchburg Police believe the cause of a school bus crash that shut down Link Road for nearly an hour Thursday afternoon may have been medical-related, said Officer J. Blankenship. Four Dunbar Middle School students were on the school bus when it swerved out of its lane and hit a tree between Hurdle Hill Road and Evergreen Road around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Two of those students had “bumps and bruises,” Blankenship said at the scene. The driver, identified as George Arthur, and an aide were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for minor injuries. The crash was still under investigation Friday afternoon. “At this point, no charges are being filed,” Blankenship said Friday. “All indications point to it being medical-related, but we’re not 100 percent sure.” Blankenship did not know what medical issues — if any — may have caused the crash, or Arthur’s current condition.
