Pembroke Pines, FL : Pines Boulevard shutdown due to fatal police-involved crash on Thursday morning, January 28, 2016

Authorities are investigating whether alcohol may have killed a driver who allegedly ran a red light and crashed into a police SUV on patrol in Pembroke Pines, Thursday morning.

Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Rescue responded to the scene at the intersection of Southwest 114th Avenue and Pines Boulevard, at 2:15 a.m.

Investigators said, at the time of the collision, the driver of an Infiniti, 24-year-old Jessica Bonilla of Miami Lakes, was heading southbound on 114th Avenue, while Pembroke Pines Police Officer Olayemi Okegbola was heading eastbound on Pines Boulevard.

According to officials, several witnesses said the driver of the Infiniti ran a red light and slammed into the marked police vehicle. "According to the testimony of six separate witnesses, five of which were independent of each other, they advised that the gray Infiniti ran the red light at which time the officer was traveling eastbound on Pines Boulevard and impacted the Infinity," said Pembroke Pines Police Captain Al Xiques.

Bonilla was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Authorities believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Okegbola, who has been with the Pembroke Pines Police Department for nine years, was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital where he is said to be in stable condition and is expected to be OK.

Pines Boulevard was shutdown in both directions at 114th Avenue for several hours. The intersection has since reopened.
