A woman from Chiefland was killed in a high-speed traffic accident Sunday after authorities say she lost control of her car and was thrown from the vehicle.
Brittany Cannon, 33, was pronounced dead on scene Sunday by Levy County paramedics, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release. The crash occurred at about 10:05 a.m..
Cannon was traveling west at a high rate of speed on County Road 330 in Levy County, the news release said. For undetermined reasons, the Buick LeSabre she was driving veered left, traveling onto a grassy shoulder.
Cannon overcorrected and lost control of the car, which hit a driveway embankment and went airborne, FHP reported. The car overturned after colliding with a wooden fence, and Cannon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. The car itself came to rest upright in a field.
The crash still is under investigation, according to FHP. Speed was a factor in the crash.
